 After all this time spent on it, I've managed to partially fix the issue with crashing save files. This fix adds a loading time when you load a saved game; it should be relatively short (1 second on my computer), but it may vary depending on your configuration. I'll try to do better in the future, but the important thing is that now, normally (I emphasize 'normally'!), your save files should work again. If that's not the case, please let me know!
